It targets the hard tartar deposit — not the tooth itself. Enamel is the hardest tissue in the human body; the gentle vibrations that shatter brittle tartar do not wear it away. When done by a trained dentist, scaling removes only what shouldn’t be there.
Where does the worry come from? Usually three sensations that feel alarming but are normal and temporary:
- Sensitivity afterwards. When thick tartar is removed, tooth surfaces that were covered are suddenly exposed to air, hot and cold. This mild sensitivity settles within a few days.
